DESCRIPTION

This class explores the neurodevelopmental basis of human relational models by examining Arginine Vasopressin (AVP), a neuropeptide involved in the regulation of social behavior. Come discover the role of neurotransmitters like Vasopressin, Oxytocin and Dopamine in regulating and maintaining pair-bonds, aka monogamous relationships. What can their genetic variants say about non-monogamous behaviors? Let’s also settle this debate once and for all: What is Normal: Monogamous or Non-monogamous behaviors?

This presentation argues that monogamous and non-monogamous relational models have identifiable neural and genetic correlates, scaffolded upon early-developing social brain circuits that modulate neuropeptide signaling and gene expression. How dependent was that development on pubertal hormones?

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. At the end of the session, attendees will be able to describe the roles of the oxytocin, vasopressin and dopamine in human social behaviors.
  2. At the end of the session, attendees will be able to explain neural and genetic correlated of monogamous and non-monogamous behaviors.
